Steps is a adapted developmental toy and switch lending library service. Their aim is to enrich and enhance the quality of life for people of all ages with disabilities by using and developing assistive technology, enabling them to have the same access to the developmental benefits of play as others. Mainstream toys are adapted so that, with a special external switch invidividuals can play with toys by switching them on, blowing, sucking , bashing, squeezing, pressing or whatever movement fits the individual. Membership information and costs can be found on their website - www.stepscharity.org. By becoming a member you can access over 3,000 adapted toys and external switches. Access to this huge range of play equipment gives young children/people the opportunity to develop. Self referrals and professional referrals are accepted - professional referrals need parent/carer consent.
