Jill Coote is a Consultant Speech and Language Therapist and
advises other professionals working within the autism client group. Jill has
been trained to use the Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI®) and the
Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) and ADOS 2 by Dr Fiona Scott. These are 'Gold Standard',
internationally recognised assessments for diagnosing Autism. Jill is
experienced in using both diagnostic assessments. She has attended a refresher
coding day with Dr Scott (May 2012) to check coding consensus and to be
familiarised with Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS
2) in line with the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 5 (DSM
5) and proposed International Classification of Diseases 11th Revision (ICD XI)
changes in diagnostic criteria. Jill Coote has experience in:
Involved in multi-disciplinary assessments
determining capacity to consent issues involving people with learning
disabilities and/or autism spectrum disorder (ASD) for the Police and the
Courts and Local Authorities. . Been instructed by Solicitors and individual
families to assess language/social skills of children on the autism spectrum
and those with language delay/disorder and has produced reports and represented
families at Educational Tribunals across the country. . Been instructed by Solicitors, Commercial
companies and individuals to undertake diagnostic Assessments and current
presentation of autism spectrum conditions (ASCs) for Occupational Health
Tribunals. . Undertaken diagnostic Assessment for language
disorder and delay and ASD conditions and liaised with Special Educational
Needs (SEN) departments at Universities and tertiary education institutes
including Oxford Brookes, John Ruskin College, Cambridge and Oxford. . Undertaken second opinion diagnostic assessments
for ASD, children and adults. Her reports have been used in Court. . Is a skilled and experienced trainer. Has
delivered training to a wide variety of people and professionals, including the
National Autistic Society, Community Care, Brighton Council, Buckinghamshire
Council, Action for Children and a wide range of other professionals and
professional peers.. Interventions, approaches and programmes are as listed plus
psycho-education, strategies for Treatment and Education of Autistic and
related Communication handicapped Children (TEACCH), Talking Mats and Comic
Strip Conversations..
Assessment procedure: I provide as assessment of autism spectrum conditions (ASCs), using Gold Standard ASC assessments and other assessments that help to indicate strengths and weaknesses within the individual.
Follow up service: Recommendations and advice on implementing individual programmes.
Multi-disciplinary assessment: No.
