Spring Common Academy is an area special school providing day education to approximately 150 children predominantly from North West Cambridgeshire. The school caters for children with needs ranging from profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) to moderate learning difficulties (MLD). Approximately 50 children have a diagnosis of autism spectrum condition (ASC). The school uses Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication handicapped Children (TEACCH), Social Communication, Emotional Regulation and Transactional Support (SCERTS), makaton and adheres to the Structure, Positive (approaches and expectations), Empathy, Low arousal, Links (SPELL) principles and approach. The school is supported by speech and language therapists and occupational therapists who advise on sensory integration programmes. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils. We hold a register of skills and tasks that we need volunteers to help with and accept those with appropriate Community Payback (CP) clearance who can support the work we do.
