The name of the unit for children with special needs is The Balloon Room. It is a new unit for pupils at Key Stage 2 (KS2) with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), situated in Springfield Junior School which is an enhanced resource. Our school population is made up of 60 per cent mainstream and 40 per cent special educational needs (SEN) of every variety. Children are included in mainstream where possible and have time out when needed to work or co-operatively play in the unit. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils. Another facility offered by the school is a dream room. We have an autistic unit attached to our mainstream school. We cater for other learning needs in the unit.
