St Catherine’s School
Main information
Type of service: Day schools, Outreach - education, Residential schools, Schools
St Catherine's is a school that combines education, speech and language therapy and occupational therapy for students with speech, language and communication needs aged between 8 and 19 years. Our small classes are assigned an experienced teacher as well as a speech and language therapist, with further input from occupational therapists and learning support assistants. Taught within Key Stages in a nurturing environment, each child’s individual needs are dovetailed with the school’s overall programme of work. Education for 16+ is offered at our Sixth Form Centre, located across from the main school. The centre offers an integrated educational programme which blends vocational and academic courses, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and independent living skills within a residential setting. Education and therapy are supported by skilled and professional care and medical teams. All teams aim to ensure the emotional, spiritual, and physical well being of each young person so they are ready and able to learn, and able to access the recreational opportunities available to them. Our location in the small coastal town of Ventnor, Isle of Wight proves an excellent additional resource, giving our learners the opportunity to put into practice what they have learnt in the classroom. Volunteers are only accepted to work with our children and young people once they have undergone an enhanced police check.
