St Mary's Wrestwood Children's Trust
Main information
Type of service: Assessment, Day schools, Further & Higher Education, Outreach - education, Residential schools, Schools
The school provides education, care and therapy for children with speech and language, social communication and moderate learning difficulties. Some children also have physical and medical problems. It helps them to achieve their full educational and social potential. It delivers a fully integrated waking curriculum. On admission each child is assessed and an Individual Learning Programme is devised by the multi-disciplinary team. The children are based in small living areas with a high ratio of child care staff, including waking night staff. The child care team is committed to providing a purposeful programme of care, enabling the children to develop their skills in personal management, socialisation, recreation and physical activities. The children also have access to a wide range of out-of-school activities. It has a Christian bias and an awareness of the needs of other religions and ethnic groups. The college is part of, and yet separate from, the main body of the school. The aim of the college is to prepare students for independent living whilst working to the highest level achievable by the student. Their individual Learning Programmes include carefully selected college courses and appropriate work experience placements. Teachers, therapists and facilitators work together across the waking curriculum to fulfil this aim. Volunteers to work with pupils may be accepted. Planned and residential respite care is available for the school's pupils. A psychologist is available.
