St Nicholas School, Croydon
Main information
Type of service: Day schools, Outreach - education, Schools
We are a school for pupils with moderate learning, speech & communication and autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). We have about 130 primary age children on roll, and over 70 per cent have a diagnosis of autism. All pupils are educated in mixed needs classes according to age. We provide outreach to mainstream schools in Croydon. Referrals must be made via Croydon special educational needs (SEN) department. The school has support from a speech and language therapist (SALT), occupational therapists (OT) and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and provides specialist teaching approaches including visual, signing and small group work. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils only if vetted through Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and placed by schools colleges or recognised organisations. Shore breaks are just for their own pupils but open to discussion about extending the provision.
