Stranraer Academy

Main information

Type of service: Day schools, Schools

Stranraer Academy is a mainstream secondary. Pupils with additional support needs may be taught in mainstream classes, the Learning Centre or The Aird Unit. Pupils attending the Learning Centre have individualised programmes of study where teaching is in small groups. The Aird facility is situated within the new building of Stranraer Academy and caters for pupils with severe and complex learning difficulties. The pupils follow Curriculum for Excellence at the appropriate level and, where beneficial, are included in mainstream classes. Accommodation within Aird includes two teaching areas, a multi-sensory room, hydrotherapy pool, a spacious kitchen for life skills, and a dining/play area. The department is staffed by Support for Learning Teachers and Support for Learning Assistants.
