The Butterfly Garden

The Butterfly Garden is an educational, recreational and therapeutic gardening and land skills project open to all students with learning difficulties, disabilities and/or behaviour problems. The project offers a classroom, wildlife and ornamental gardens, a polythene tunnel, greenhouse, fruit trees, vegetable plot, raised beds, cows, chickens and ducks. The project has broadened and now offers woodwork, art, craft, music, drama and dance along with literacy and numeracy modules. The garden is worked by over 60 students per week from colleges of further education, the Mental Health Service, occupational therapy units and residential care homes and individuals. The project, which started in 2002, operates on land adjoining a Nursery and Garden Centre on the outskirts of Cheltenham. Families/carers are also welcome, if appropriate.
