The Collett School
Main information
Type of service: Day schools, Schools
The Collett School is an all age (5-16 years) special school for pupils with moderate learning difficulties (MLD). Within the primary department, around 30 per cent of the children have needs arising from autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The Autism Provision team offers additional support to 8 children. Initially, these children learn within the Base classroom, where we use strategies including Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication handicapped CHildren (TEACCH), Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and Intensive Interaction. We work strongly towards the inclusion of the children within their peer group class, with an individual program for each child. We maintain close contact with parents through regular feedback and support meetings. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils with criminal records bureau (CRB) check.
