The Fathers' Club, Mid Kent
Main information
Type of service: Local groups
The Father's Club (support and guidance for fathers of autistic children). The aim of the club is to provide support and guidance for fathers and grandfathers whose children are on the autistic spectrum. This is achieved by providing a regular monthly forum where fathers meet in a friendly environment. There they are free to air their problems, exchange information on a wide range of issues, learn about the services that are available and all discussions are treated with the greatest confidence. Experts with extensive knowledge in many areas of autism are occasionally invited to the meetings. They sit in the circle with the fathers, join in the conversations and bring their particular expertise to bear on matters under debate. The Club maintains links with other parent groups in the area, also with local schools, government bodies, the local autism unit and others who can provide support when needed. The monthly meetings are held at Bower Grove School.
