The Link Primary School
Main information
Type of service: Day schools, Schools
This is a primary school for 40 pupils. Although a school for children with speech, language and communication needs, a percentage of pupils have some autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). Most of the teachers have attended a Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication handicapped CHildren (TEACCH) course and two have an advanced diploma in autism. The school uses TEACCH procedures, intensive interaction, social stories and the 'social use of language' programme. The children with ASD benefit from working alongside children with speech and language needs who have relatively good social skills. Pupils are educated in mixed groups. Other facilities offered by the school are music and drama therapy. Along with these enhancement activities are other interventions such as Paget Gorman Signed Speech. Our extended school provision includes an athletics after school club held at the David Weir Centre in Sutton and a drama & film club held onsite.
