Autism Service Directory

The Link Service

Main information

Type of service: Befriending/mentoring

The Link Service offers short breaks to disabled children and young people. It aims to provide new experiences, widen their horizons, as well as giving them special friends of their own. It also gives their families a break from their care. Link carers offer them regular time in their home, ranging from a few hours a week to a weekend a month whilst Link-up Befrienders accompany disabled young people to activities in the community or in the young person's home. The Link Service aims to support young people who meet the criteria of the Disabled children and Young people's service, who have a variety of disabilities, though the most common category is those on the autism spectrum.
