The Parent Voice has two audiences and one aim. .
AUDIENCE 1: .
Parents of children with SEN. We help parents acknowledge how difficult it can be to avoid our emotions overtaking us particularly when we have a meeting with a SENCO or an education psychologist. Our easy-to-follow strategies help parents keep a clear head and “park” emotions in order to be a good advocate for their child. We help parents maintain collaborative relationships with those professionals who support their child. All our workshops for parents are free of charge. .
AUDIENCE 2: .
Any professional whose job brings them into contact with parents of SEN children. We explain what it's like to be the parent of a child with SEN, and how overwhelming feelings can stop a parent being calm or reasonable. Our training delivers easy-to-follow strategies on how to communicate better with parents. We teach ways in which to deliver difficult or upsetting news to parents that are effective and positive. The cost for our training is extremely competitive: we charge per workshop, rather than per attendee, in order to maximise cost-effectiveness. .
ONE AIM: Better relationships between the parents of children with SEN and the professionals who support those children. Good relationships mean effective cooperation; this in turn means a better outcome for the child that both parties support. .
The Parent Voice is run by two psychotherapists who are also parents of children with special needs. .
