The Redway School
Main information
Type of service: Day schools, Schools
A day special school for pupils with severe learning difficulties (SLD) and profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are taught in mixed group where this is beneficial to all the children in the group. Some pupils with ASD may be educated in very small groups with other ASD pupils. The school places communication skills at the core of the curriculum. There is an emphasis on total communication in a social or play environment. Some volunteers may be accepted after interview and appropriate checks. The Redway School is maintained by Milton Keynes Local Authority (LA) catering for children between the ages of 2-19 years with a wide range of learning difficulties. The school is located in Netherfield, near to both the city centre and Milton Keynes General Hospital. We also have a family room, a large meeting room, a library with a Connexions Point, and a suite of therapy rooms used by the medical professionals who work alongside school staff. The school has a specially designed playground for pupils in the Foundation Stage, a reflection area, a large play area for the primary pupils and various other smaller play areas for older pupils. The school also has its own fleet of buses – two minibuses and two larger buses.
