The Ridgeway Community School provides for pupils 2 to 19 years with severe and profound and multiple learning difficulties. The school has an inclusive off-site nursery provision on a mainstream primary site and an off-site inclusive Further Education (FE) provision in the local FE College. Staff are trained throughout the school in autism, including Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication handicapped CHildren (TEACCH) and Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS). These systems are used across the school. Pupils with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are educated in mixed groups across the school. We now provide an outreach service for families to help with communication and behaviour. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils.
