The unit provides support to children with a statement of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) placed in the mainstream school. Students educated in school follow appropriate year group curriculum. The unit provides social skills teaching, 1:1 catch up and pre-learning, mentoring and life skills programmes. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils. All subject to criminal records bureau (CRB) checks. All our strategies support the ethos of Structure, Positive (approaches and expectations), Empathy, Low arousal, Links (SPELL). Interventions, approaches and programmes offered by the school are: anger management, applied behaviour analysis (ABA), circle of friends, counselling, integrative art therapy, life skills programme, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy and social skills groups.
