The Speech Language and Hearing Centre
Main information
Type of service: Interventions and therapies
The Speech Language and Hearing Centre at Christopher Place is for babies and children under 5 who have hearing impairment or delay in speech, language and communication, autism or more complex needs. The Centre is the only one of its kind in the United Kingdom (UK). A child-centred programme combines teaching and therapy from an interdisciplinary professional team. A close partnership with the whole family is central to our approach. The Centre offers: An interdisciplinary Team Assessment; Specialist Nursery Groups; Sensory Processing/Integration Support; A Social Skills Group; Therapy Clinics; and Support for hearing impaired children including Auditory Verbal Therapy and “Baby beginners”. The purpose built Centre provides an acoustically treated environment where a structured language program is offered to each child in small groups and one-to-one therapy. We welcome full parental involvement and close liaison with other professionals involved in the child’s development. Referrals can be made directly to the Centre by parents or interested professionals. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the service users.
