Tor Bank School is a Controlled, Special School for pupils with severe learning difficulties (SLD). The school is divided into 4 departments – Primary, Multi Sensory, Secondary, and Sixth Form. All classes are organised into year groups according to chronological age where possible. As well as the intensive support team we have 2 staff who offer specialist support to pupils with autism and communication difficulties. We use an eclectic approach in teaching programmes eg Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication handicapped Children (TEACCH); Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS); I Con I Can etc. The Special Provision for the Education of Autistic Children (SPEAC) Centre is also based at the school, offering an Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) programme to children aged 4 to 11 years with autism and severe learning difficulties.
