Town Hall Symphony Hall Birmingham - Relaxed Performances
Main information
Type of service: Play and leisure
Relaxed performances are open to everyone but are specifically for people with an Autistic Spectrum Condition, a learning disability or sensory and communication disorder. It's a great way for individuals, families, groups and schools to experience live performances together in an adapted environment. A relaxed performance is designed to be less formal and embrace different types of audience reactions - an easy way to think of them is 'the opposite of the quiet carriage on the train'. .
Adaptations we make to the relaxed performances include: .
- Lighting levels for the shows will be kept constant so there are no extreme changes and the house lights will remain on
- Sound volume levels for the show will be kept low
- Extra wheelchair spaces are available in the stalls area and a central aisle created in the middle of the stalls seating
- Doors to the hall will be kept open so you can come and go at any time during the show
- We will create a chill-out area which will have beanbags, toys and other activities relating to the show which can be used at any time during your visit
- We will produce a visual story guide for both parents and children with information about Town Hall, our staff, the cast and the shows
- A video guide to Town Hall is available online on each event page so you can see the hall before your visit
