The name of the unit for children with special needs is Tuffley Communication and Interaction Centre. There are 20 places in the Centre - 10 Key Stage 1 and 10 Key Stage 2. The teaching is a combination of "In-Centre" structured, small group delivery and integration within the mainstream classes. All pupils have access to the full National Curriculum, differentiated according to the needs of the individual child. There is speech and language therapy provision on site. Specialist teaching staff and teaching assistants provide planned programmes of study and support for each child. Volunteers to work with the pupils may be accepted. We are 1 of 4 such centres in Gloucestershire each serves a part of the county. Another intervention, approach and programme provided by the school are total communication. Pupils have access to soft play facilities, stables and swimming pool facilities off-site. Children wanting a place at the Centre must have a primary need of communication and interaction which can be autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
