UK Young Autism Project
Main information
Type of service: Interventions and therapies
UK Young Autism Project is directed by Catherine Gale and Diane Hayward. It is a research based centre that specialises in teaching children with autism, other pervasive developmental disorders and related developmental disorders. The intervention programme was developed by Dr. O. Ivar Lovaas and is based on extensive clinical experience and more than 30 years of scientific research at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The programme is comprehensive and aimed at enhancing intellectual, academic, social and emotional behaviours of young children, so that they take better advantage of the educational and social opportunities available in their communities and require less professional attention as they grow older. Intervention programmes are currently provided to children and young adults from ages 1 year to early 20s. UK Young Autism Project has recently published ground-breaking research in the United Kingdom (UK) showing that a group of 44 children receiving ABA programmes from UK YAP gained an average of 16 IQ points following one year of treatment. UK Young Autism Project is a division of UK Behaviour Analysis and Research Group C.I.C.
