Uplands School is a high performing day school for students who have severe learning difficulties (SLD) or profound multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). A high proportion of young people at Uplands have a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) classes are organised on a 'needs-led' basis with each key stage containing specific ASD classes, though students who are able to function successfully and thrive in integrated classes are placed accordingly. Uplands is committed to offering a stimulating, flexible and functional curriculum for all of the young people in our community. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils with criminal records bureau (CRB) checks required. The school uses the Structure, Positive (approaches and expectations), Empathy, Low arousal, Links (SPELL) framework. Another intervention, approach and programme offered by the school is Signalong.
