Pathways School is a special school that provides for the needs of 4-11 year old pupils with severe and complex learning difficulties. Our children all have communication and social interaction difficulties with 93% of them having a diagnosis of autism. All our children have a Statement of Special Educational Need (SEN). Our school has developed an enriched, creative curriculum to motivate the children to learn and for us to break into the often isolated world of the autistic child. Our school currently has 50 pupils from reception to year 6. Children work in small class groups and units where we aim to meet their diverse needs throughout the school day. Pathways is a happy school where staff are highly trained & knowledgeable in the education of pupils with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). They have high expectations of themselves and of all of the children we teach and we strive to find individual solutions for each child so we can help them to cope with the social and sensory demands of both school & the wider community in order to enable them to participate and learn. The school also provides training, siblings group and parent training.Other extra curriculum activities offered by the school are enrichment activities including swimming, tobogganing & bowling, rebound therapy, art and Information and communications technology (ICT). There are 6 children with severe learning disabilities (SLD), communication & interaction difficulties.
