Wargrave House School is a specialist school for children and young adults with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The school aims to provide an environment in which every pupil is presented with opportunities and relevant teaching which will enable them to become happy, participating members of the family, school and community. The school has 68 pupils and 95 staff. Classes are of 6-8 pupils with 1 teacher and up to 4 teaching support assistants in each. The school provides weekly boarding for approximately one third of its pupils. The development of communication skills is a core feature of the school's curriculum and as such it employs 3 full time speech and language therapists and a speech and language therapy assistant. The school also has a family support worker who facilitates strong links between home and school. Students aged 16-19 attend 'Lakeside' the school's further education provision. As well as having facilities in the school grounds, 'Lakeside' also has a classroom at the local college of further education. The school has 2 senior teachers in charge of inclusion and has forged strong links with local mainstream schools in both primary and secondary sectors. The school also provides consultancy and external training for a variety of professionals. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils. The school uses the philosophy of the SPELL framework but does not refer to training as 'SPELL' training. Planned respite services are just for their own pupils.
