Webster Primary School
Main information
Type of service: Day schools, Schools
The name of the resourced provision for children with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is the Rainbow Rooms. We are a primary school with resourced provision for children with ASDs and/or specific language impairments (SLI). Pupils with autism are part of the whole school and are educated in their mainstream class for as much time is appropriate to meet their needs. All staff have had training on strategies that can be used to support children with ASD and SLI. We have dedicated specialist staff, resources and classrooms for pupils in the resourced provision to be taught in small groups, when appropriate to meet their needs. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils subject to Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and safeguarding checks, and supervised by staff at all times. Resource provision places are 5-11 years. The teacher-pupil with ASD ratio in the mainstream classes is usually 1:30. The school covers Central and East Manchester and admissions are decided by Local Educational Authority (LEA) panel. Other disabilities catered for by the school are speech language and communication needs.
