West Heath School
Main information
Type of service: Day schools, Residential schools, Schools
West Heath School is a specialist independent day and weekly boarding school catering for students with a diverse range of needs aged between 10-19 years. Our aim is to enable our students to face and overcome the challenges which act as barriers to their academic development and the social world that surrounds them. With HEART, a therapeutic centre, our school is able to apply an individual approach to each student's learning, with a flexible and varied curriculum structure to enable progress. Speech and language therapist (SaLT), cognitive behavioural therapist (CBT), occupational therapist (OT), play therapy, neuro linguistics, counselling and massage therapy are all based on site; there is a seamless integration between development strategies identified during therapeutic sessions and their application in the classroom. Following the National Curriculum and with qualifications that range from Asdan to A Levels, students are able to access provision at their stage of development. Our broad based enrichment programme includes activities which provide academic and personal learning opportunities and experiences both in the United Kingdom (UK) and abroad. On a site of 32 acres, with a sports centre and swimming pool, outdoor teaching areas and a range of educational facilities and boarding houses, we aim to meet the needs of our students. It offers weekly boarding in addition to day places. Distance from school in terms of travel time determines the catchment area. At least 70% of people supported are autistic.
