West Lea School
Main information
Type of service: Day schools, Outreach - education, Schools
The school has a friendly, calm and welcoming atmosphere and was OFSTED inspected in October 2010 being judged to be a good school with many outstanding features. Recently the school received specialist sports college status, and achieved the National Go4it (gold) Award in 2010. The curriculum offered enables students to reach their full potential both academically and socially, we particularly endeavour to increase their independence and self-esteem. We follow the general strands of the National Curriculum but with the emphasis on life and social skills for everyday living. Pupils access a wide range of examinations and external accredited courses including: Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network (ASDAN), Entry Level and General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE). We are developing our curriculum all the time and currently we have one and three day per week courses at Enfield College. Classes are grouped according to ability and social needs rather than age. This allows us to build on previous good practice offering a developmental curriculum to the less able, while challenging the more able pupils. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils. School/College/University work experience & voluntary placements with confirmed Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checked..
