There are 7 specialist units within the school plus some pupils with an autism spectrum condition (ASC) are educated in generic classes. Pupils with an ASC are placed on an individual basis related to their needs within a variety of settings in the school. We have both "High" and "Low" Dependency specialist classes for pupils who need the structure of a Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication handicapped CHildren (TEACCH) environment. Other pupils with an ASC are placed in small generic classes alongside pupils with a range of needs including speech and language. Parents are consulted about these decisions, and some pupils are on a mixed placement within the school. More able students with an ASC can be offered accompanied mainstream experience. Respite services are just for the school's own pupils. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils. The school will be changing its name to Woodlands Meed School from September 2012.
