This course was developed based on the findings of the National Autistic Society's Autism in Maturity projects.

This course is designed for people who work with older autistic adults. You’ll need an understanding of autism and experience of working with autistic people.

If you know little about autism, combine this course. We can also deliver this course as part of a one-day package that begins with a morning session on understanding autism. This works well for organisations with limited experience and understanding of supporting autistic people.

Training includes:

training materials and information provided for each delegate
opportunity to hear autistic perspectives; this may be through films, quotes from autistic people or the inclusion of a speaker by experience
signposting to relevant literature and resources.

Autism and ageing – what do we know so far?
Risks to the quality of autistic people’s lives.
Research evidence into the potential outcomes for autistic adults.
Possible effects of ageing for autistic adults.
Physical and mental health changes associated with ageing.

Key research and knowledge, and recognise its limitations.
Understanding issues such as living arrangements, employment, physical and mental health, and you’ll identify specific strategies for supporting older autistic people.
Meet fellow practitioners and work with an NAS trainer who has many years’ experience of supporting autistic people.

CPD Accreditation

This module is accredited by the CPD Certification Service (the leading CPD accreditation institution) as conforming to continuing professional development principles.
Learners will receive a certificate of completion which can be used as verifiable documentary evidence when submitting CPD recording forms.
