A membership organisation for people with learning disability, their families and friends. Provides residential respite care for adults, community support for adults and children, children's home respite, youth clubs, holidays and leisure, and befriending. These services could cater for people with autism where they have a learning disability. Carlisle MENCAP also hosts North Cumbria Autism Family Support project which provides advice and support for families of young people with autism (from birth to 18) in Carlisle, Eden, Copeland and Allerdale districts. Volunteers support the delivery of the service. People self-refer, except for adult residential respite which is done via a social worker. Covers Carlisle and the rural district around.
