Kirklea
Main information
Type of service: Residential services
Kirklea provides assessment and support for adults living with a primary learning disability diagnosis but may present complex conditions. Some of our service users also have communication difficulties as well as a range of other disabilities such as autism, epilepsy or Down's syndrome. The service offers 24/7 specialist residential support and is committed to providing just enough support to empower and encourage individuals to develop the skills they need to live as independently as possible and achieve positive outcomes for all. The service is also supported by a quality assurance team including a specialist Learning Disability Advisor whose aim is to empower service users to take control of their lives and, where possible, work towards a level of independence which fits with their skills, confidence and aspirations. The people supported at Kirklea range from individuals who have multiple disabilities, to those with mild learning disabilities who require minimum support. It is our aim to provide everyone living at Kirklea with a sense of belonging in the community and strive to ensure that they feel at home in their environment. Living at Kirklea: Promotion of independence is a major part of our work with everyone actively encouraged to be involved in all decisions affecting their lives; we do this by means of Person-Centred Plans, which are developed for the individual being supported and are specifically tailored to reflect their personal needs and choices. Where appropriate, we encourage and support people to move on to more independent living within the community. The services available at Kirklea include: Innovative person-centred support programmes in a safe and caring environment; Progression through a care pathway that fulfils each individual's maximum potential to live more independently; and Multidisciplinary staff team.
