Main information

Type of service: Day schools, Outreach - education, Residential schools, Schools

Options Higford provides integrated programmes of care, education and therapy for children and young people aged 8 to 19 years with autism, learning disabilities and associated complex needs including challenging behaviours. Set in 28 acres of rolling Shropshire countryside, The National Autistic Society (NAS) accredited Options Higford is a residential school and registered children's home offering day, short break, outreach and residential placements. Up to 52-week residential care is provided within homely, specially adapted on-site accommodation. There is also dedicated respite provision on-site. Staff at Options Higford take a person-centred and outcomes-focused approach to providing care and education that is designed to help each student exercise choice and control, increase their confidence and prepare for adulthood. Young people have individualised care, education and therapy plans that are delivered in a variety of environments to promote the development of communication, social and life skills as well as academic achievement. Options Higford has on-site clinical and nursing teams that work closely with the education and care staff to develop the communication and life skills of each student as well as addressing their individual health needs. Each young person's individual learning abilities, requirements and academic progression are consistently monitored to ensure that support remains proactive, that learning opportunities are maximised and that every individual achievement is celebrated. The recent introduction of a 'Forest School' further enhances the 'Extra Curriculum' activities available at Options Higford.
