The school's designation changed in September 2009 to be the City's identified school for pupils with a diagnosis of autism spectrum conditions (ASCs). Only pupils with a diagnosis of ASC are admitted to the school. Currently 66% of pupils have a diagnosis of ASC; the majority of these are working below level of the National Curriculum. The school achieved Specialist School Status in Communication and Interaction in September 2010 and is now seeking to develop the specialism both within and beyond the school. The school increased to 90 pupils from September 2012.
