About the training

All children have a right to be protected from abuse, but autistic children can present professionals with particular difficulties in identifying abuse as some of the indicators of abuse can appear to be the same as some indicators of autism.

This Department for Education project aims to increase the quality of safeguarding services across England, leading to early interventions to prevent abuse and neglect of children on the autism spectrum. The project has already held a very successful conference, and released a Safeguarding booklet.

This online module builds on from the booklet, taking approximately 60-120 minutes to complete. A certificate of completion and percentage pass mark will be provided from our online assessment.

Module outcomes

Understand how autism is defined and what this means in the context of legislative framework for safeguarding children.
Identify safeguarding issues in children and young people on the autism spectrum and what to do if you have concerns about a child, either as a victim or a perpetrator.
How to better communicate with children on the autism spectrum and strategies for managing behaviour and restraint.
How to ensure that children on the autism spectrum are protected in different settings; parent/carers; residential schools; care homes; custodial settings.

Cost
